Open Call: Reflecting Groups and Working Sessions within the Network

Deadline: October 21, 2018 – We are now accepting innovative ideas and topics for Reflecting Groups and other working meetings that put into action the network’s mission in the areas of:

  • art and culture for social change
  • advocacy in cultural policy
  • peer-to-peer learning
  • capacity building
  • knowledge transfer

Meetings can take place after applicants receive written approval from the jury, which will be sent out by the end of November 2018. Reporting (financial, narrative, and visual) needs to be finished by 15 September 2019.

A total of 10,000 EUR is available. We aim to support at least two initiatives. In your application, you should show and explain the contribution that you or your organization will be able to make to your project’s overall budget, as the network support should not exceed 50% of the total costs. So, if the meeting can take place in your organization’s meeting room without paying for it, please treat this as an in-kind contribution and translate the saved costs into numbers on your budget!

What is a Reflecting Group?

A Reflecting Group is a format that was developed by the network. It is a professional study trip for research, reflection, and exchange on a specific topic or question pertinent to the network. Through the common experience in the group, the exchange of thoughts and ideas should reflect the project’s relevance for your professional life.

The focus can be on a research topic or a particular field of art and culture. The choice of the specific topic is up to you, though we strongly suggest selecting a topic that is linked to the network’s strengths and interests, such as trans-sectoral exchange (mutually productive cooperation between art, media communication, civic education, economics, etc.); transcultural knowledge (how is it generated, transferred and shared?); historical and trans-cultural discourse; political potential of arts in times of radicalization; or rural and urban change.

If you are planning to hold a working session or a Reflecting Group that aims to foster exchange and offer continuing education courses, you should communicate details in advance among the network in order to ensure that interested network members from all programs can participate. Each session should involve at least eight participants. A network member is responsible for management and the application process respectively.

Applications must be submitted by 21 October 2018 through the online form. You can find more information here.

The selection is made by a jury consisting of a representative of the Robert Bosch Stiftung, a representative of MitOst e.V., and two network representatives.

If you have any questions about the call for applications, please don’t hesitate to contact us, the network representatives, or Sarah Herke of
MitOst (herke (at) mitost.org).

We are looking forward to your applications and ideas!

Best wishes,
